The ‘War on Christmas’

Today’s Washington Post had an A-1 story about this year’s White House Christmas card, which doesn’t actually have the word “Christmas” printed on it. It seems that while the American Family Association has declared a boycott against Target because the retailer is having “holiday” specials instead of “Christmas” sales, some other conservatives are letting the White House off the hook, saying that the omission of Christmas from the holiday cards is simply too much political correctness, not the “war on Christmas” that apparently God-less retailers like Target are waging on the American public.

The best part of the story is a quote from the Rev. Bob Edgar, general secretary of the National Council of Churches, which has said it is not offended by the use of “Happy Holidays” versus “Merry Christmas.”

While the folks on the right say their heathen counterparts on the left are trying to purge Christ from Christmas, Rev. Edgar had this to say:

“I think it’s more important to put Christ back into our war planning than into our Christmas cards.”

My thoughts exactly. Thanks, Rev. Edgar.
