Why I love my Congresswoman

As a Washingtonian — or, as a District Dweller — I’ve come to accept that I and my neighbors are subject to the whimsical bullying doled out by the U.S. Congress. After all, we’re just those people to Congress. We’re here when they show up, and we’re here when they go whimpering back to The Hinterlands.

So it’s only appropriate that we have the Hon. Eleanor Holmes Norton as our Congresswoman (nee “Delegate,” since she doesn’t have the right to vote on behalf of her 550,000 residents, despite the fact that we, as residents of the District, pay just as many federal taxes as everyone else). Eleanor is a bulldog in all but the most literal sense of the word — she fights tooth and nail for every resident in the city.

And, thankfully, she has a great sense of humor, as demonstrated during a recent appearance on The Colbert Show. Granted, Colbert can dish it out, but Eleanor can do a heck of a lot more than simply “take it.”

All I got to say is, You go girl. You’ve got my vote!
