Ever hear of the urban heat island effect? According to the EPA, downtown areas can be as much as 10 degrees hotter than the surrounding suburbs.
Don’t believe it — it’s all B.S. The guy with the snack cart on L Street has a thermometer. It’s 109 in the shade, and that doesn’t even count the whole “heat index” thing. But Weatherbug says it’s merely 95 degrees (heat index 111 right now).
The streets and sidewalks of downtown D.C. are on fire. Damn, it’s hot out there.
