NBC’s Campbell Brown broadcast live from Hong Kong this morning for “The Mystery of Faith” series. She may have given the most concise and accurate explanation of Buddhism I’ve ever heard:
“For Buddhists, faith is not based on institutionalized religion. Instead, it’s a personal journey where believers don’t seek salvation through an omnipotent god, but rather where individuals are divine within themselves and responsible for their own fates.”
She also did a story on the Buddhist version of what many Westerns think of as heaven – enlightenment. Video of the entire series is available here and is worth the time for those interested in the basis for the world’s major belief systems.
